HOW TO PREVENT LITTER
Report Litter: If you see littering in Hot Springs Village, call the Police Department at the non-emergency phone number 501-922-0011.
If you see littering on other Arkansas Roadways, you can call 866-811-1222 or use their online form,
Use Reusables: Plastic is bad news for the environment! It pollutes our air, water, and soil, and it can even release harmful chemicals that mess with the food chain. Plastic also kills marine life, tangles up animals, and gets eaten by them – it's a real danger to wildlife.
So, ditch those plastic bottles and switch to metal ones. Swap plastic straws for metal or BPA-free ones. And when you're at the grocery store, forget the plastic bags – bring your own reusable cloth bags or grocery boxes, and don't forget a thermal bag for cold stuff.
EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN
Teachers know that kids learn best by doing stuff. When it comes to teaching about the environment, there are tons of cool activities to help kids understand how litter and trash mess up our communities. Teachers can click here to find free materials online to use in their lessons.
RESTAURANT LITTER
Food packaging is second only to cigarette butts in littered items worldwide, The Eats & Clean Streets initiative provides businesses that sell any to-go food with signage they can display to remind customers not to litter. This initiative is open to all sit-down restaurants, fast-food restaurants, gas stations, and convenience stores.
Consider taking your own take-out container when you dine out. Servers appreciate it, and it eliminates a styrofoam “clam” each time you use it. We encourage the managers at all of our favorite Village restaurants to join a new program offered by Keep Arkansas Beautiful. Click here to join.
